Nervous breakdowns aren’t nice fare for anyone, but lately I have seen a few Marketing Directors so close to it they look like chain smokers on a long distance flight.
All nerves and shakes, the overloaded pressures of maintaining ROI and lead generation in a business environment seeing more and more technology is truly now taking its toll.
One person in particular, he looked a mess. Stuck for the first half of each day answering nothing else but Facebook messages – and that’s even before he could contemplate looking at more wide-reaching activities such as branding, PR, online optimisation or lead generation.
Ultimately, he has been enslaved by the job and as each month comes along the mountain of pressure keeps building and building and anybody who is looking from the outside ultimately recognises just how insurmountable is his situation.
So, his options were to:
- keep going like that until he dropped dead (which is not a good outcome) or,
- to throw it outside and not worry about it (which would see him fired) or,
- to throw it outside, but to someone who can take over offsite
He was suffering from that new condition - 'Marketing Manager Overload', so to change things he partnered with an external marketing agency. Not just anyone, but one that could recognise the parameters of his plight and dovetailed in to give him a workable – and far more relaxing – solution.
External marketing isn’t for every Manager, but it probably does suit the vast majority purely because when looking from an outsourced perspective, the value proposition takes on a new level of effectiveness largely because someone external can often see the obvious requirements.
It’s a little more challenging than it sounds here, but external assistance can partner up very well as it often brings specific disciplines into the fold to make a massive difference.
It’s all part of a greater mix. If it helps, why not download our free e-book for Marketing Managers which outlines various areas of your work which, with a clever repositioning, could make your life so much easier and your career less stressful and more rewarding?
