Writing business content - be your own master

At the time of penning this blog, I am taking moments to complete a novel.

Although it involves writing content, a novel gives me a lot more for free-thought and allows my mind to flow without any major constraints or backtracking to check for technical accuracy, punctuation or grammatical purity.

Basically, since Franz Kafka was published, I believe grammar was shown a red card in the world of fiction. But his writing was brilliant and stood the test of time.

But look behind the scenes in the publishing game and you'll find some of the same constraints you often face as a marketing manager or business owner.

That is, someone stands in the way of you doing what exactly what you want with your business content!

Let me put it into context.

Old style advertising is a lot like traditional novel publishing. You spend valuable time putting your mind and soul into preparing copy you believe properly encapsulates your business and its capability, then a third party comes along and wants to completely change it rather than utilise its strengths.

For example, one literary agent was very helpful suggesting that before I send the complete manuscript for his perusal, I should make a pit stop with a vetting 'specialist' whose people will make a critical appraisal of the work so as to streamline its potential with agents!

I had never heard of specialised vetting for fiction novels and asked what sort of experience or qualifications such a team would have. Apparently part-time journalists.

So my work was to be appraised by part-time versions of a profession from which I mastered many years ago.

So the big moral to make you feel more at ease? If anyone tells you that your marketing or lead generation content isn't up to scratch and needs a major overhaul, they may not necessarily know what they are talking about anyway. Normally, sensible guidance and assistance ahieves wonders

Just have a chat with someone who does this for a living. A communications specialist is normally very approachable and happy to lend some time.

Have a read of this free document? it will give you a clear picture of the pros and cons of what business content can do in a really big way for your business, if done, distributed and enabled intelligently.
